General Info

Tucked along Av. Álvaro Obregón 900, Obrera, 89490 Cd Madero, Tamps., Mexico, La Gaviota Coja stands out as a relaxed seafood restaurant where freshness and flavor take center stage. The location is easy to find, and once inside, the atmosphere feels casual and welcoming. Locals often gather here in groups, while visitors drop by after hearing good reviews about the menu and the consistently fresh seafood.

From the moment you sit down, it becomes clear that La Gaviota Coja focuses on simple dishes done right. The menu highlights traditional coastal flavors, and the seafood arrives tasting as if it came straight from the ocean that same day. One of the most talked-about plates is the Tostada Con Jaiba A la Frank, a dish that balances fresh crab with crisp textures and bold seasoning. It’s light yet satisfying, making it a favorite choice for both first-time visitors and regulars who know exactly what to order.

Another standout from the menu is the Empanadas de Camarón Gratinado Y de Salpicón de Cazón. These empanadas arrive golden and warm, with a filling that’s rich but not heavy. The shrimp gratin version offers a creamy seafood flavor, while the cazón salpicón adds a slightly tangy twist. Together, they show how the kitchen keeps traditional seafood recipes interesting while staying true to local tastes.

What really adds to the experience is the sense of hospitality. On one visit, the staff surprised the table with a complimentary caldo de camarón, a comforting shrimp broth that perfectly set the tone for the meal. It’s a small gesture, yet it says a lot about the way this restaurant treats its guests.

The drink options also help round out the experience. You’ll find refreshing cocktails alongside a solid cup of coffee, which pairs well with seafood dishes if you’re stopping by for a late lunch or relaxed dinner. The restaurant is equipped with practical amenities too. There’s a restroom available, the space easily accommodates groups, and credit cards are accepted, which makes paying simple and convenient.

Overall, La Gaviota Coja feels like the kind of place where good seafood, friendly service, and a comfortable setting come together naturally. The menu is focused, the flavors are memorable, and the location in Cd. Madero makes it an easy stop for anyone looking to enjoy fresh seafood in a laid-back environment. Whether you’re exploring local dining spots or following positive reviews from other guests, this restaurant delivers an experience that feels authentic and satisfying.

What customers say?

“ Good food, flavorful and generous portions, quiet atmosphere but small. You have to wait outside for a table, which can be uncomfortable due to the temperature. However, the service inside is quick, which shortens the wait, and you receive a complimentary drink while you're seated. ”

“ Excellent food, very flavorful and seasoned. The service is very good, and the cleanliness and overall appearance of the place are top-notch. The prices are a bit high, but it's completely worth it. The tortilla chips are delicious. Recommended for your visit to Ciudad Madero, or for a weekend getaway. ”

“ Great service and atmosphere, the food is delicious. Order the shrimp quesadilla. It's tastier than you can imagine. It's a very tasteful family-friendly cantina, so to speak. They have their own unique snacks, and they give you complimentary salsas upon arrival. The atmosphere is pleasant, perfect for going as a couple or with friends to enjoy yourselves even more. 10 out of 10 ”

“ The dishes I saw served to my companions seemed quite acceptable in their presentation, but I heard mixed opinions, both positive and negative. One dish was missing a side, and another was missing a side, which, in my opinion, indicates a lack of control and/or supervision in the kitchen. I tried a dogfish salad that disappointed me, and I ordered a cocktail that wasn't badly served, except that the sauce they added was (or rather, was) too acidic and there was way too much of it, which detracted from the flavor of the seafood. The service was somewhat slow. Honestly, I've been to places with better service, food, and reasonable prices. ”

“ A very good seafood restaurant. It was a good decision to come here for Mother's Day. The food is delicious, the service is good and very friendly. As a courtesy, the mothers who came were given a delicious strawberry drink. Its location is very good, close to downtown Madero and on the main avenue. I highly recommend it. ”
